"Back around 1986 I lived at the above mentioned building in an apartment on the 3rd floor.  When I moved in there, I had been 'jokingly' told by the superintendent that a woman had committed suicide in that apartment many years previous.   I figured the super being a Newfie who loved a good ghost story was just trying to yank my chain.  I moved in anyway.

Nothing of note happened in the first few months, but one night around 3:00 am, I was up working on a book I was writing when I suddenly smelled a brand of perfume I knew I never used. My apartment was close to the elevator which was old and generally made a helluva racket when it was traveling between floors.  So I couldn't help but hear if someone was coming up to the floor.

The beast was silent, and looking through the peephole in the door, I saw that there was no one in the hall, which might have been a logical explanation for the fragrance.

I can't really say that I felt a presence as I wasn't as sensitive to these things then, so jokingly I cockily said "Susan (that's what I named her) take a bloody hike already, you're wanted here."  The smell disappeared and I can't say that I ever smelled it again in the apartment.

On a postscript, prior to my moving in there, I had learned that nobody ever stayed in that apartment longer than the time it took them to use up their first and last month's rent.  I stayed for three years.

So was the place haunted? Possibly.  Is it still?  I'm not sure.

Being a lifelong Etobicoke resident, I thought I'd share this experience you all."

Update September 2010:

One of our readers shares the following experiences after reading the above report......

"I'm not sure what buiding or apartment on Lakeshore BoulevardWest the other person was speaking of, but I used to live on the Lakeshore and one of the apartments there was definitely haunted.

My family and I experienced very odd encounters many times. We would hear footsteps, whispers, things turning on and off... dishes moving around at night, the shower going on around midnight and the horrible feeling of being watched.
These events occurred just about 6 years ago, and we're not sure if its something that wanted to harm us or not, but it definitely wanted to let us know that it was there.

Not only did we hear things but we saw things too... And our friends that would sometimes sleep over said that they would see, feel and hear things as well. Like their bed being moved in the middle of the night, or someone nudging them to wake up or simply calling their name repeatedly till they woke up. Even though it would be very unpleasant, we stayed there a few more years till we ended up moving but I've always wondered what it was."
