Brampton - Another Father's Return?

This story was submitted by one of our readers and of note, it must be the one hundredth such story submitted about a parent or other relatives return...

When I was nine years old, my father passed away in a self inflicted firearm incident in our family home in Brampton, Ontario.

After his death, nothing out of the ordinary happened. We still owned the home but did not live there after a time and as far as we know, all was quiet until we rented the place out in 1981. We had about ten families of tenants in four years. They would just pick up and leave suddenly. It wasn't that the house was expensive it was a real bargain, but people would just pack up and go.

We decided to move back in to the house in 1985 and there was nothing of note. Then, one night in 1986 I had a party. You know, one of those "My parents away for the LONG WEEKEND" parties? A really close friend of mine a girl who I had a bit of a crush on back then, got the scare of a life time.

The party was in full swing and the music was loud and the conversation was almost as loud in contention. That's when dad, I guess, made his presence known to my lady friend.

She accidentally walked into the room where my father killed himself. All I heard was screaming. I thought that someone was being attacked by the sound of the screams but what seems to have happened is my lady friend had walked in and felt the cold of the room and felt a presence almost as though someone had brushed beside her.

I walked in and there she was shaking all over and crying. On a hunch, I think dad was pissed off. I can't even be sure it was dad.

But I do know it was my father three days later down in the basement continuing to build his bar (he was building a basement bar when he passed on.) There was no sound and he never looked up but there he was accompanied by the smell of his pipe tobacco. I can't remember the brand name of the tobacco. It had a yellow package with Red Lettering.

I think mom got spooked as well because she put the house up for sale that summer and never looked back.
