Always looking for cemetery ghosts as they always are our most 'requested' stories for those looking for atmosphere and a good 'spooky' location, we found another in Carp, Ontario.
Before going further, we at the OGHRS are all for people visiting cemeteries as they are beautiful places of reflection and art and honestly, should be visited during the day with MUCH respect being paid to the place and especially those interred in the site. Please read our articles on cemeteries and on "What's Cool, What's Not" and remember, there are as many 'ghostly sightings' happening in the day as there are in the evening.
To quote Dr. Daryl Walsh,
"The reason ghosts come out at night is that most ghost researchers don't get off work until after five-o'clock pm."
In this cemetery's case, the ghost is seen LEAVING the cemetery so it was viewed by people outside the walls of this hallowed ground.
In 1893, a phantom open buggy was seen by dozens of witnesses speeding out of the cemetery, taking off down the road and then it would re-enter the cemetery vanishing after it had entered the gates. There were two passengers wearing top-hats in the buggy but curiously, (keeping in mind the year this was happening) the buggy managed this feat without horses.
There are no (known) recent reports of this phantom buggy but during the Summer of 1893, apparently it was a regular visitor to the cemetery.
Do you have anything to add? Any information about the cemetery or buggy that may add to this report? Perhaps another report from the Carp area?
