We received the following report in April 2012
In April, 2008, my husband and I moved into a boutique condominium at Lake Shore and Park Lawn. It’s located east of Park Lawn, by the lake and nestled in with the other condos. At the time, the building was only about five-years-old and the gentleman that sold it to us was the original owner. It was a bright, spacious, open concept unit and it had a really good vibe about it. It also appealed to us as there were only five units on our floor. However, as time passed, strange things began happening sporadically. I know this sounds peculiar and superstitious but, while we lived there, we always seemed to have some type of misfortune bestowed upon us. For instance, a week after moving in, my husband lost his job. Then in January 2009, I was packaged out from my long-time employer; hence, finances were tight for the first couple of years. When my father-in-law, who has been riding motorcycles practically all his life, came to visit us, he got into a motorcycle accident. Even my young stepson was experiencing a lot of unusual health problems. In June, 2010, my husband and I were in the master bedroom and heard a man coughing in the living room – it was as clear as day. We both went out to the living room but there was nothing and the windows and balcony door were closed. Then we smelled cigarette smoke, checked around but nothing. A few months later, my nine-year-old stepson, who would visit every other weekend, came out of his room swearing up and down that he heard me calling him from my bedroom. I told him I was out on the balcony having a drink – again, all windows were closed as we had the air conditioner on. Then, later in the fall of 2010, which I recall it being the night of a bad rain storm, my husband and I were in bed, watching TV when we both swore we saw a tall, slim, dark-haired man with a moustache walk by our bedroom door. It happened within the blink of an eye so that we couldn’t make out the features.
Around the same time as the previous incident, my husband was up having his coffee and watching Breakfast Television before work one morning when, all of a sudden, he saw on the top right hand corner of the screen, the channel change slowly to “3”, “0”, “3” (or some channel in the 300s) like as if someone had the converter. Then that 90’s horror show, Poltergeist: The Legacy came on. Needless to say, he was troubled by it, as the converter was sitting directly in front of him on the living room table. Neither our dog nor cat were anywhere near the converter or TV to have stepped on it with their paws. The most alarming incident occurred on Remembrance Day, November 2010. I was in the dining room eating my lunch while my husband was in the kitchen loading the dishwasher. Our cat was in the master bedroom and we had a wooden hanger hanging on the inside knob of the bedroom door. All of a sudden, with some type of enraged force, the door slammed slut and sent the hanger flying. We both freaked out because, again, all the windows were shut. We immediately ran into the master bedroom but there was nothing there. Our cat was just standing behind the door and there is no way a 15 pound cat could have slammed a door shut like that. It was as if something an angry human would have done. We went out to the hallway, checked the refuse area but nobody was there; we just couldn’t explain it. At this point we were seriously discussing moving but didn’t want to commit to another property as my husband was new to his job and I was on a contract. We were never fully terrified of what was going on but it was quite unnerving. Also, our dog and cat didn’t seem disturbed by it.
The final alarming incident happened in February, 2011. I was in the second bedroom on the computer when, all of a sudden, I heard a thunderous bang as if someone threw a heavy object against the wall. I ran out and checked the entire apartment but nothing had fallen. I then went to the hallway, checked the stairs, refuse, even the elevator but nothing. I called Security to find out if anyone was in the unit directly above us but Security reminded me that it was still vacant and nobody has signed in to see it in a while. When I went back into the apartment, I remembered that I didn’t look in the laundry room; the reason being is that the so-called laundry room was more like a closet with a stacked washer and dryer. When I opened the door, the large, almost full jug of detergent was just sitting up straight on the lower part of the stacked unit. Neither my husband nor I ever left it there as it would obviously fall because it would not be able to balance; we always put the detergent on the top shelf with the fabric softener. I figured that must have been the loud bang I heard.
The weird thing about all this is that one of the Security guards told me that, when he was doing his rounds at night, he would hear someone walking around in the unit above ours even though it was vacant. All visitors were required to check in and there was never a record of anyone being there while he heard the footsteps.
My husband became friends with the gentleman who lived across the vacant apartment. One day he asked my husband if anyone had moved in as yet because some nights while he was waiting for the elevator, he would hear someone walking around. Anyway, shortly after that, I purchased some sage and sweetgrass and cleansed the apartment. Within two weeks, I was offered an incredible position and said goodbye to my unpleasant contract. My husband got a raise and a promotion and, most of all, the strange activity stopped. In October, 2011, we finally moved out as we sold the unit to an investor who planned to rent it out. I often wonder if the new resident(s) is experiencing anything odd.
