Update October 2010 - One Of Our Readers Writes:
"On a sunny day this past summer, my boyfriend and I were visiting Fort York for the first time. It being a week day, the grounds were very nearly empty with only a handful of tourist and staff. We were exploring the two-level building that now displays cannons, weapons, uniforms and such, and aside from another couple we were the only people in there. Leaving my boyfriend on the ground floor, I went upstairs to poke around by myself, and seeing as how he was taking his time, I thought I'd find a hiding spot and jump out at him when he got upstairs, just to give him a scare. I found a pillar and squeezed myself between it and the wall and waited. I knew when he'd be coming up the stairs - the building was so quiet that I could hear every floorboard in the room below creak. When he did arrive on the second floor, I tensed, watching him approach my hiding spot... Suddenly I heard and felt the wall directly behind my head being hit, as though someone had given it a good hard blow with their fist. I jumped out of there right quick, a bit freaked out, and went to where my boyfriend was standing and asked if he'd heard that. He did. Now, in the walls are small slots, (I guess for defensive purposes?), and I opened one of these little windows to check around the outside.. maybe someone had thrown a rock? or maybe a bird had slammed into the wall? Nothing. So I shrugged it off as maybe the building was still settling after 200 years, although the sound was very definite and really localized. We continued to check out the exhibits, and curious, I went back to that section of the room just to give it the once over, when it happened again! The blow shook the wall and it was loud! We decided then to run outside and try to catch whoever was throwing things at the walls, or maybe find a dead bird lying on the ground, but we were the only people in sight. (Also, if "feelings" are anything to go by, it felt as though someone were irritated with me and my little prank.. not mean or negative, just annoyed.) Although I enjoy ghost stories and spooky happenings, I've never encountered anything that didn't have a more logical reason behind it than "the supernatural". This is a little weird for me because I couldn't explain it off-hand, and the rest of the visit was completely uneventful."
