From one of our readers...
I thought I would relate my experience with ghosts from a few years ago when I lived on Cowan Avenue in Toronto. The building is a former mansion that was converted into apartments and celebrated it's 100th birthday while I was living there.
Throughout the two years, I often felt and heard strange things. One night in particular, while my roommate was at work tending bar, I was reading in bed. I heard the front door open and someone walk up the stairs heavily and slowly. When the footsteps got to the landing, I heard a bag drop to the floor. Then all the sounds stopped. I waited for my roommate to knock at my door, which was right at the top of the stairs, but she didn't. I didn't hear any other noise at all. I suddenly felt very apprehensive and crept quietly out of my bed and walked to my door. There were no shadows in the hallway and I slowly opened the door. She wasn't home. She was still at work. It was roughly 4am, which was the most popular times for me to experience things in our house. I thought maybe it was the cat, but there's no way he could have stepped so loudly and so humanly.
While I was there I repeatedly saw and felt the presence of two people. One was a young man. I had the sense that he was returning from the war. The other was a girl, about 7 years old. I seemed to see her a lot near the top of the stairs - but never very clearly or for more than a second. What's really strange is that the cat always seemed to react to the same strange sounds and sights.
