A reader writes:
An old mansion house on Jarvis St. Toronto. Lived there with many others who experienced apparitions of a young girl in pinafore dress and long hair, noises, crying at night, cold drafts, doors opening/closing in one particular room, objects moving and falling, footsteps particularly on the second floor where we lived and in the main hallways and staircase. Objects disappearing for periods of time and then reappearing where they were last seen. This was in the late 1970's and early 1980"s. The house has since been renovated and now houses a Mac's milk on the main floor. Rear of house was demolished. Don't know if anything occurs now but it was very lively then. I have a fireplace mantel from the home and as recently as a few years ago I have heard a chime sound in any room where it is kept. The basement had a very unpleasant sensation and once standing in the driveway the coal shute cover flew off and hit us in the legs in broad daylight.
Apparently the house was a part of a girls school that was housed mainly in the old CBC building on Jarvis. I found a card behind the mantle with a name and form number and wondered if it was the girl many of us heard and saw. We were warned before we moved in that the house was "haunted" but didn't believe it. Until we lived there. No wonder the rent was so cheap. I am still in contact with people that lived in that house and have memories of incidents. Perhaps it is too late now to investigate and maybe the presence is gone but I've wondered often if "she" is still there.
